Ato Girum Tsegaye Kassa is a seasoned banking executive with nearly 30 years of leadership experience in Ethiopia’s financial sector. He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Goh Betoch Bank S.C., the country's first private mortgage bank, following his appointment on February 1, 2024, with official approval from the National Bank of Ethiopia.
Ato Girum holds an MBA in Business Administration and a BA in Business Management from Addis Ababa University. Over the years, he has also completed several specialized trainings in technical and leadership development, including programs in credit analysis, operations, and human resources management.
His career journey began at the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, where he held multiple leadership roles in strategic planning, procurement, HR, credit, and training. Later, he joined Hibret Bank, where he served as Vice President of Operations and Finance and was eventually reinstated as Senior Deputy CEO. His reputation for strong leadership and turnaround expertise led him to become the CEO of Berhan Bank, where he helped the bank recover from a sharp profit decline. Under his direction, Berhan Bank improved its shareholder returns and raised dividends significantly.
In addition to his work in banking, Ato Girum was the founding CEO of Ethio Lease Ethiopian Capital Finance S.C.—the first foreign-owned leasing company licensed by the National Bank of Ethiopia. His role in pioneering equipment lease financing added a new dimension to Ethiopia’s financial service offerings.
Beyond executive roles, he is also a board member of Berhan Insurance S.C. and a well-regarded trainer in credit analysis and managerial development.
