Dashen Bank Partners with EagleLion System Technologies to Launch Innovative Remittance Services in Ethiopia
Dashen Bank, one of Ethiopia’s leading private banks, has
partnered with EagleLion System Technologies to officially launch three
new remittance services aimed at strengthening financial inclusion and
boosting legal money transfers to Ethiopia. The announcement was made at
Sheraton Addis Hotel yesterday in the presence of key stakeholders, including
officials from the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE).
The new services—Gift-Ethiopia, Agent-Based
Remittance, and API Remittance—are expected to transform the way the
Ethiopian diaspora sends money and gifts back home, creating faster, safer, and
more affordable channels.
1. Gift-Ethiopia: Digital Gifting Platform
Gift-Ethiopia is a web-based platform designed for the
Ethiopian diaspora to send cash, gift cards, and holiday-related goods and
services directly to their families. Items such as livestock, festive
gifts, and other essential goods can be purchased seamlessly online, making it
easier for Ethiopians abroad to celebrate special occasions with loved ones at
home.
2. Agent-Based Remittance: Secure Cross-Border Transfers
This service allows licensed agents to facilitate
cross-border money transfers by prefunding with Dashen Bank. The system ensures
a secure, cost-effective, and efficient remittance channel, expanding
access to Ethiopians who receive funds through an authorized agent network.
3. API Remittance: One Integration for Global Operators
The API Remittance service provides a single integration
point for Money Transfer Operators (MTOs) and Remittance Service Providers
(RSPs). It eliminates the need for multiple costly integrations with
different banks. This solution supports interoperability with all Ethiopian
commercial banks, enabling seamless name lookups, settlements, and real-time
transaction monitoring.
Boosting Ethiopia’s Remittance Inflows
Speaking at the launch, Mamo Mihretu, Governor of the
National Bank of Ethiopia, emphasized that the new platforms will significantly
boost legal remittance inflows, enhance foreign currency availability,
and contribute to Ethiopia’s overall economic growth.
Dashen Bank CEO, Asfaw Alemu, highlighted that the
services will provide inclusive financial solutions for Ethiopians abroad,
regardless of where they live or work.
This comes only months after Dashen Bank, in partnership
with EagleLion System Technologies, launched the Dashen Super App, the
first of its kind in Ethiopia’s banking sector.
With these latest innovations, Dashen Bank is positioning
itself as a pioneer in digital financial services while strengthening
the connection between the Ethiopian diaspora and their families back home.
