Ms. Frehiwot Tamiru is a vibrant and visionary Ethiopian leader, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Ethio Telecom since 2018. Known for her bright personality, technical expertise, and business acumen, Frehiwot has become one of Ethiopia’s most admired public sector leaders, driving remarkable growth and modernization at one of Africa's largest telecom operators.
A Remarkable Journey from Programmer to CEO
Born and raised in Addis Ababa, around the Beliere area, Frehiwot began her career at Ethio Telecom immediately after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. Over seven years, she rose through the ranks from programmer to Deputy Manager before venturing into entrepreneurship. She founded Doxa IT Technology Plc, leading it successfully for another seven years.
Her journey came full circle when, following a significant political shift in Ethiopia, she was personally called by the Prime Minister to lead Ethio Telecom—a role she humbly admits, "I didn’t expect this role to be given to me." Before becoming CEO, she also served as a Board Member of Ethio Telecom.
