Dr. Brook Taye is a globally trained economist, legal expert, and transformative public sector leader currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), Ethiopia’s largest sovereign holding company. With a dynamic background spanning international finance, law, and regulatory affairs, Dr. Brook is widely credited for laying the foundation of Ethiopia's modern capital market system.
A Pioneer in Ethiopia’s Financial Sector
Dr. Brook made history as the Founding Director General of the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) from December 2022 to August 2024. Under his leadership, ECMA transitioned from concept to regulatory powerhouse—marking a milestone in Ethiopia’s economic reform agenda. His tenure brought unprecedented attention to the development of transparent, investor-friendly policies that positioned Ethiopia as an emerging financial hub.
Leadership Journey
Before leading ECMA, Dr. Brook served as a Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Finance of Ethiopia for over four years, playing a key role in major economic and investment reforms. His expertise also includes international experience as an Investment Fund Manager at A&A Capital Inc. in Miami, Florida, and a Regulatory Analyst and Economist at Windels Marx LLP in New York.
Academic Excellence Across Continents
Dr. Brook holds a Ph.D. from École Polytechnique, one of Europe’s most prestigious institutions. He also earned multiple advanced degrees in Law and Economics from Université Paul Cézanne (France), University of Ghent (Belgium), and University of Bologna (Italy)—graduating with Great Distinction. He began his academic journey with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from SOAS University of London.
A Life of Service Rooted in Passion for Ethiopia
Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Dr. Brook is the eldest of six siblings. At the age of 19, he embarked on a global journey to pursue education and professional growth, eventually returning to Ethiopia in 2018 with a deep commitment to serve his homeland. In his own words, “the dream of serving my country is fulfilled.”
Now, as CEO of EIH, he is focused on building long-term value and institutional strength in Ethiopia’s strategic public enterprises, aiming to leave a lasting legacy across key national organizations.
